History
Pike’s history began in 1945, with the entrepreneurial spirit of Floyd S. Pike.
He was determined to start a power line construction company. As Floyd S. Pike’s daughter in-law,
Anne Ashburn Pike, wrote in her historical chronology of the Company’s rise, Climbing to the Top,
"times were tough at the end of WWII, but a lack of equipment didn’t stop Floyd – he salvaged a truck
at the bottom of the inland waterway near Beaufort, NC, got it running, and drove it back to
Mount Airy in freezing November weather... with no windshield."
That kind of fortitude led to today’s Pike – a leading Energy Solutions Company – with a renowned
reputation for integrity, safety and solutions, throughout the electrical industry. .
Floyd’s restored truck, Old No. 1, as it is affectionately known, is displayed in the lobby at Pike headquarters.
And that entrepreneurial spirit is still going strong, as Pike’s footprint and services continue to
evolve with the needs of our clients and their customers.
